The opportunity for the leaders of the community to demonstrate their pride in the town and the people they represent. A civic function commences with the formal greeting and announcement of the guests as they arrive and are introduced to the Mayoral party, then there is the entrance of the splendidly robed Mayor in a dignified procession led by the Toastmaster in his scarlet tail coat. The Toastmaster introduces the speakers and exchanges of formalities. It is the role of the Toastmaster to give these civic events pomp and dignity and to ensure that the whole event receives the attention and distinction which the Borough and its Chief Citizen deserve.
